AWS backup services: How it works?

Update tech Ltd.

Amazon web services (AWS) backup is a managed backup service that allows to centralize and automate the backing up of data across AWS services. AWS backup services also provide the opportunity of creating backup policies called backup plans which backup the data according to the backup plan that user-defined.

Advantages of AWS backup services:

AWS backup services provide some great advantages, Usually, customers use AWS backup for RDS snapshots. Here are some advantages of using AWS backup services.

Separate, Lock-Down, Permission:

RDS snapshots and other backups are stores at the vault which has its own permission model. This model can be configured by its own account. This vault provides the features which can simply lock down the vault to prevent malicious deletion.

Regular basis backup:

AWS backup service also provides a feature which allows user to configure AWS backup to keep daily backups for a week, weekly backups for a week, weekly backups for a month, and monthly backups for a year.

Support multiple services:

AWS Backup can store backups from a range of AWS services, including RDS, Dynamic DB, EFS (Elastic File System), EBS (Elastic Block Store), and Storage Gateway. Which also allows backups from multiple parts of a system to be stored and managed in a consistent way.

Centralized management:

There are lots of large company want centralized management of backups, rather than individual application teams being responsible for their own backup strategy. This is also a very important and best practice. The AWS Backups service supports this, thus simplifying backup management across the company.

Cross-region:

Where a disaster recovery strategy is needed cross-region, AWS Backup can play a vital role. AWS Backup services allow the user to copy backups to multiple AWS regions automatically or on-demand.

How does the AWS Backup Service Work?

AWS Backups services built around the following concepts:

Backup rules-
AWS backup rules define a backup, specifying a schedule, backup frequency, and others. Backup rules can be applied to a specific resource, or to groups of resources.

Lifecycle rules- AWS lifecycles rules define what will happen with the old backups. Lifecycles rules allow to move backups to cheaper storage tiers, or delete them completely, after a specified period of time.

Vault- RDS snapshots and other backups are stores at the vault which has its own permission model, and each vault is encrypted by a Key Management Service (KMS) Key.
